Euroinsights – Minimalist Mood – Maximum Impact Hall of Frames Zurich
The age of minimalism filters into many areas of our lives, as home decor, automobiles, our smartphones, and architecture are streamlined and imbued with uncluttered aesthetics.
Optical frames are clearly present on this minimalist stage, as evidenced at Hall of Frames Zurich, held in the beautifully restored Congress Hall in the center of Zurich. In this lovely setting, with a splendid view of the lake and mountains in the distance, designers and brands revealed new eyewear looks that concentrated on slim silhouettes. In particular were optical styles, in titanium, stainless steel, wood, acetate, and assorted combinations. Some brands recognized for their audacious approach to eyewear, now opt for graphic forms in striking colors and sophisticated neutrals.

Swiss designer Nirvan Javan’s latest frames are a “harvest” of Arabica coffee beans. The contemporary shapes are composed of the aromatic bean that is grown in Columbia, Mexico, Brazil, and India. The four sleek designs are named after the countries where the beans are grown. Eyewear sustainability is a high priority for an increasing number of designers.

Overall, the sun spec world endorses maximum silhouettes in contrast to slender optical designs. French label Paul & Joe highlights voluminous, glamorous sunglasses with Rita, smoothly carved in shiny acetate in four desirable tones of Havana dark, Aubergine, Havana light, and shiny black.

Hall of Frames Zurich provided an excellent opportunity to see not only desirable new eyewear designs, but the event was also a welcome reunion of meeting people, connecting with business associates and friends. Many people commented how pleasant it was to renew relationships with companies and representatives, after a long hiatus due to the pandemic. Next on the agenda for Hall of Frames is an event in Lucerne in spring 2022 in collaboration with YOU&EYE from Sweden.
