ClearVision Optical Recognizes 2025 Fred Friedfeld Scholarship Winner

Monica Van Duyne
ClearVision Optical recently recognized the latest recipient of the Fred Friedfeld Memorial Scholarship, awarded in partnership with SUNY College of Optometry. The latest scholarship was presented to Monica Van Duyne.
“ClearVision was founded 77 years ago on a set of values including service, compassion, respect, and integrity,” David Friedfeld, president and co-owner of ClearVision, said. “Those values were instilled in both our company and our family by my father. Through this scholarship, we are proud to continue supporting optometry students as they complete their education and prepare to serve patients and communities across the profession. In honoring the industry Fred loved, this investment supports the future of optometry—its innovators, community eyecare specialists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and small business proprietors who represent the next generation of eyecare enthusiasts.”
The Fred Friedfeld Memorial Scholarship was founded in 2014 by David Friedfeld, Peter Friedfeld, co-owner and vice president of ClearVision, and the Friedfeld family. It was created in honor of their father and ClearVision founder, Fred Friedfeld. The scholarship is funded by donations, including during Founder’s Month in May, when the company runs a focused campaign to raise money. It also builds on ClearVision’s longstanding belief in supporting education and training through its dynamic internship program, relationships with university capstone programs, longstanding rapport with optometry schools nationwide, and this endowment to further the profession of optometry.
Since its founding, more than $110,000 has been raised, with 10 scholarships awarded. Mimi Friedfeld and Peter Friedfeld attended the awards ceremony in November 2025 on behalf of ClearVision Optical.
“I am sincerely honored to be selected as a recipient of your scholarship,” said Van Duyne, a fourth-year optometry student. “As a fourth-year optometry student graduating this coming May, your generous support means so much to me. This scholarship will help ease the financial burden of my final year of training, allowing me to focus fully on my clinical education and growth as a future optometrist. Thank you for believing in students like me and for investing in the future of our profession. I am truly grateful, and I look forward to carrying this support forward by giving back to the optometric community and supporting future students in the years to come.”
