MODO, an independent eyewear company and industry leader in sustainability and social purpose, is proud to have been one of the first companies to support HRH The Prince of Wales and the Sustainable Markets Initiative’s (SMI) Terra Carta charter. Launched in January 2021, Terra Carta provides an ambitious roadmap for businesses to move toward a sustainable future. Now, as part of the Initiative, HRH The Prince of Wales has met with G7 leaders and Global CEOs to call for coordinated action to tackle climate change and launch the 10 Terra Carta Transition Coalitions.

As a supporter of SMI’s Terra Carta, we welcome the announcement made on June 11th of the 10 Terra Carta Transition Coalitions to drive sustainable investment and industry action. The work done earlier in June further enforces the importance of the Terra Carta charter, which challenges businesses to plan for a future that will harness the power of Nature combined with the transformative power, innovation, and resources of the private sector.

“We are proud to be a part of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Terra Carta charter. We share the belief that the private sector will be the driving force of change for a sustainable future, and we look forward to expanding our contributions. Our effort to constantly innovate our products’ materials – including recycled ocean plastic waste, metals, and plastics as well as biobased solutions and responsible packaging is a first impactful step within this important commitment. Being part of such a prestigious coalition of the willing makes us extremely optimistic for the future that we can create together.” – Alessandro Lanaro, MODO’s CEO.

Nearly a decade ago, MODO launched its first initiative to donate one frame for every frame purchased. The program has since been expanded into the one-for-one Help a Child See pledge, and, in partnership with Seva Foundation, has provided comprehensive eye care to over one million children in need.

MODO’s brand Eco creates new eyewear concepts that use sustainable materials and plants a tree for each frame purchased. Their products include eyewear made from biobased and recycled materials, along with the recent addition of recycled ocean-based plastics. Together with the organization Trees for the Future, Eco’s One Frame, One Tree program has planted over 2.5 million trees. Additionally, the program works with and teaches farmers in developing areas about sustainable farming techniques to empower entire communities to restore their environment, grow more food, and build a sustainable future.

With their continued support of the Terra Carta charter, MODO joins companies such as Unilever, Astra-Zeneca, BlackRock, and LoveFrom in their commitment to ensure that their businesses are aligned with preserving the world’s biodiversity and achieving net-zero emissions as part of the development of a more equitable, prosperous society.
